Dolores Stoughton is the Brazoria County Regional Coordinator for Bridges To Life, coordinating projects at the C. T. Terrell Unit, Darrington Unit and Stringfellow Unit in Rosharon, the Scott Unit in Angelton, and the Young Medical Facilityin Dickinson.
Dolores was born and raised in Alvin, Texas, and worked in the Alvin school district for thirty years. She began as a third grade teacher then, for the last seventeen years, she taught struggling first graders to read in an early intervention program called Reading Recovery©.
Dolores’ interest in prison ministry began over 20 years ago when a deacon from her church—who also served as a chaplain at the Ramsey Unit—invited her to join them once a month on Sunday afternoons to serve coffee, cookies, and lemonade to the families visiting loved ones at that unit. In 2004, along with her husband and a team of people, she participated in weekend long retreats (WATCH retreats) at various units.
Dolores was introduced to the Bridges To Life program in 2007 by a friend and BTL volunteer. As her friend described the program and talked about healing, forgiveness, and reconciliation, Dolores felt a tug in her heart and knew she wanted to be a part of it.
She called John Sage and received her volunteer training over a cup of coffee. Since then, she has volunteered at the Jester III and Darrington units before coming on full time as a regional coordinator.
Dolores and her husband, Eddie, have three children and seven grandchildren. They still live in Alvin.
